As a supporter of dance and my Filipino heritage, I’m excited to be participating in “Sarap Tikman,” which means delicious taste in tagalog, on Wednesday, June 29th at 6-9p.m. at the PASACAT Center in National City. This is an event to raise funds for the Philippine Performing Arts Company. I’m thrilled to be surrounded by such talented Filipino chefs, artists & entertainers participating in the event. Last weekend I had the pleasure of making this Shopkins Wishes cake for Emme’s 7th birthday. This has to be one of my favorite cakes I’ve made so far because I love how it’s colorful and FUN! This cake also gave me a great opportunity to showcase my new ability to produce edible images that I custom make and print with edible ink.
To be honest, I was quite intimidated by the looks of this cake because of all of the details, but in the end, sculpting everything went pretty seamlessly…some cake designs give me a really hard time & I stress out! My client Peggy provided me with a photo of a Shopkins Wishes cake, but allowed me to use some creative freedom on the bottom tier. That was great because sometimes I look at other cakes, the toys, logo, etc. for inspiration. After custom-making the name using a font similar to the Shopkins logo, I added the bunting in edible images. I placed tiny little fondant shapes allover the cake like confetti similar to Shopkins packaging. You can also see my inspiration on that cute backdrop behind Emme in the photo provided by my client below. What a perfect dessert table! I see beautiful decorated sugar cookies & cake pops, Filipino pecan tarts (YUM), cookies and donuts. Such a lovely theme…now I want to throw myself a Shopkins party! This was a two-tier 6″ & 8″. The top tier of the cake was lemon with raspberry buttercream, and the bottom tier was rainbow swirl with vanilla buttercream…kids love a colorful cake and so do I! Review: “The cake was delicious, moist and so pretty! Everyone loved it! Thank you!” – Peggy (via text) Thanks Peggy for your cake order, sending me photos, and your kind feedback! I really enjoyed making this cake! Happy 7th Birthday, Emme!
