Paris 1st Birthday Cake & Cupcakes

Last weekend I had the pleasure of making Amelie’s 1st birthday cake, smash cake & cupcakes.  Might I add, isn’t that the perfect theme for a little girl named Amelie? The main cake consisted of two tiers, a 6″ & 8″, covered in quilted pink fondant.  This was my first time doing that fondant texture, and I thought it looked really beautiful, especially adorned with the black dragees (beads).  All the decorations were edible with exception to the Eiffel Tower topper, which was a metal model provided by the client.  The bow was made of gum paste in order to hold it’s structure, and I started constructing that three days in advance.  Thank goodness the bow worked out because it’s a big part of the design!  The black & white damask print was an edible image I printed, and I thought it added a nice touch. Even though this was a Paris-themed cake, the coolest part is that it also reflected the client’s Filipino heritage!  This was an Ube (purple yam) cake filled with leche flan, ube buttercream, macapuno (young coconut strings), and the bottom tier had ube cream cheese.  The cupcakes were red velvet with pink cream cheese, and the other cupcakes were pink cake and vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream.  Twelve of the cupcakes had piped flowers, with the use of Russian nozzles. Thank you, Renelen, for hiring me to make desserts for your daughter’s special birthday!  Happy 1st Birthday Amelie!  Hope you loved your cake!

Tsum Tsum buttercream cake with fondant TsumTsum figures mmc bakes custom cakes san diego chula vista I’m really proud of this Tsum Tsum cake for Mikaela’s 7th birthday party on May 15th.  It involved a lot of hand-sculpted Tsum Tsum characters that I really enjoyed making!  Minnie Mouse was my favorite one to sculpt, and Elsa took a close second.  That’s probably why they decided to share the coveted cake topper position! This was an extra tall two-tier 4″ over 6″ buttercream covered cake with fondant accents.  The cake was chocolate & vanilla marble with vanilla buttercream. Client review: “_chelly_d@mmcbakes it was so delicious! I’m so glad we did buttercream frosting instead of fondant. It was a hit! I had to hide a small slice for me to eat tomorrow ?  I can’t get over how cute and delicious this cake was. I wish I found you sooner. ? Thanks to Rochelle for sending this adorable photo of the birthday girl for me to share, and for your kind review!

Gender Reveal Bee Cake

mmc bakes gender reveal cake bee theme baby shower san diego Surprising friends and family with a gender reveal cake can be so much FUN!  I know this because that’s the same way I chose to share the gender of my first child.  A baby is such a blessing, and throwing a gender reveal party is a special way to celebrate by making that big announcement with loved ones. I was thrilled to be a part of this bee-themed gender reveal baby shower.  What a clever theme, because yellow is a gender-neutral color when it comes to baby clothing, and apparently there are a lot of cute things you can do with bees! This is a single-tier 10-inch blue vanilla cake with sweet cream cheese and a nice layer of leche flan in the center.  The little edible bees & flowers are hand-sculpted fondant, and the cake is covered in buttercream.  The client chose the perfect words, “He or She, what will it Bee?” In the end, after seeing the client’s photos of their beautiful dessert table with bee cupcakes, honey favors, and other matching goodies, it was truly an honor to hear from the “Mommy-to-Bee” that the cake pulled everything together!  Compliments like that are exactly why I love making cakes! Congratulations Kelly & Michael, and thank you for allowing me to make your special cake!  YAY Team BLUE!!! Below are photos taken by the client; my favorite is the one where the happy parents are kissing and holding the slice of blue cake!
