Pokemon Cakes

I’ve finally took some time off to catch up on my blog posts, and I first wanted to give this two-tier Pokemon cake a proper blog post because it has been super-popular on Pinterest thus far!  I made this cake in May of 2016 for Evie’s 10th Birthday party.  This is very similar to a cake design that my client sent me a photo of, however, I’d like to think that I make improvements & changes where I can, or where the client tells me.  Personally, I prefer that cakes are always personalized with the celebrant’s name and age, which I added to the Pokeball portion of this cake.  The bottom tier was an 8″ chocolate and vanilla marble cake with Oreo buttercream filling.  The top tier was a 6″ rainbow swirl cake with a strawberry vanilla cream filling.  I also made some matching mini cupcakes with custom edible wafer paper images.

I also made another Pokemon cake in October 2016.  This was about a 9″ half sphere covered in fondant.  It also came with two dozen regular size Pikachu & Pokeball custom edible image cupcakes.  Happy 7th Birthday Avery!

Here’s a look at the “It’s a Small World” Cake I made in October 2016. It’s a two-tier fondant covered cake with a 360-degree design around the bottom tier made of a bunch of fondant cutouts in the style of the “It’s a Small World” castle at Disneyland.  I thought this was such a lovely, unique theme!  Just think about the awesome backdrop & fun props you can use to decorate!  The bottom tier was an 8″ hazelnut cake with Nutella buttercream.  The top tier was a 6″ ube purple yam cake with ube buttercream. Client review: “Thank you so much Joy! The cake was such a hit andeveryone loved it ? It definitely completed mia’s birthday theme!” – Ria I’m a San Diego based cake artist with a licensed home baking business. I love this Tsum Tsum birthday cake I made for Selene Rae’s first birthday!  This is a two-tier fondant covered cake with a 10″ chocolate and vanilla marble cake with Oreo buttercream filling.  The top 6″ tier was chocolate with mocha buttercream & leche flan.  I used Satin Ice fondant for the cake, and it gave the cake a simple, clean finish.  The name banner is a custom edible image to match the Tsum Tsum logo font that was on her invitation. tsum tsum cake, fondant mickey and minnie, fondant tsum tsums, fondant piglet and pooh, mmc bakes, custom cakes san diego, chula vista Each of those figures on the cake are hand-sculpted fondant by me.  The fondant figures are fun to make, but very time consuming.  The fondant figures I made from top to bottom (left to right): Beast, Belle, Stitch, Minnie, Captain America, Piglet, Pooh, Mickey and Ironman.  The fondant figures can be kept forever as keepsakes since they dry up firm.   Here’s a gallery of photos of the figures in detail, the matching cupcakes, and the client’s gorgeous setup at a park. mmc bakes, tsum tsum cake, tsum tsum fondant figures, pink smash cake, san diego, chula vista, custom cake Client review: “This was an incredible cake! I used a Wilton large circle tip for piping. It makes for a gorgeous effect, especially on this smash cake. I’m a San Diego based cake artist with a licensed home baking business.
