Alice In Wonderland Cake

This Alice in Wonderland cake is definitely one of my favorites!  I love the baby blue mixed with the red hearts and black diamonds.  The top tier is a 6″, and the bottom tier is a 10″.  The teacups on top are made with gum paste, and they are the most difficult items on this cake to sculpt, and they need several days to dry to attach the handles.  Below is a post I put on Instagram about creating the bottom tier’s diamond pattern.  I also made a video for the making of the cute little smash cake, as well as photos of the cakes on my client’s gorgeous dessert table.
My first Alice in Wonderland smash cake is my most pinned cake design on Pinterest, so I thought I’d share a tutorial on how I put this recent one in baby blue to match the client’s color palette. It’s a 4″ buttercream cake with sculpted fondant candle & roses?Enjoy!? I’m a San Diego based cake artist with a licensed home baking business. Alice In Wonderland Cake & Cupcakes

This week I had the pleasure of creating an Alice In Wonderland-themed cake, cupcakes, and smash cake for Chloe’s first birthday!  Now, it’s been a while since I have done a girly-themed cake; for some reason, I’ve done mostly boy themes- maybe because I have two boys, and I make all of their cakes?!!  This time, it was refreshing to use so much PINK fondant!  My client, Eunice, had been meticulously preparing the details for her daughter’s first birthday MONTHS in advance, so it was no surprise that she wanted desserts that were no less than up-to-par with her style & vision, which you can tell from the designs she chose.  Fast forward to the event date, as soon as I entered the venue, I was immediately impressed with the handmade life-size cutouts of card men that stood guard in the foyer.  The dessert display was nothing short of Pinterest Perfection- the kind of dessert table with a pretty backdrop and decorations I always want, but NEVER have time to do because I’m too busy making the cake!  Luckily, Eunice allowed me to share some photos of the final display.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  Alice herself even stopped by for a visit!  Great job Eunice & team for making Chloe’s birthday unforgettable, and thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of it!
Cake details:  This was a 2-tier (6″ & 10″) topsy-turvy cake, made of pink marble almond cake, covered in white chocolate ganache, and filled with vanilla bean Italian meringue buttercream.  All of the details were hand-sculpted fondant including the #1, name plaque, rose, clock with chain, and tea cups…those teacups, I might add, were the hardest part!  Aren’t they cute though?  I also made a matching mini 4″ smash cake with adorable fondant details that looks just like the one Alice had in the movie!

The dozen “showstopper cupcakes” had premium handmade clock, card men & “eat me” fondant decorations.  They were red velvet cupcakes filled with sweet cream cheese and topped with buttercream grass. A big shoutout to my friend, Cheryl Nuevo of Shing Bakes, for kindly sending me this referral.  She made the most perfect custom decorated sugar cookies to go with the theme!
