I really enjoyed creating and making this custom graduation cake for a local kindergarten graduation event! Based on what my client was looking for to match her “Reach for the Stars” theme, and the approximately 100 people she needed to serve, I designed this cake from scratch, so I’m really proud of it. Typically clients send me photos of what they want their cake to look like, however with this one, I had some better ideas in mind that I pitched. I’m glad my client went for them, because I think it turned out great!
This three-tier cake consisted of a 12″ base tier of chocolate cake with Oreo buttercream. The middle tier was a 10″, and the top was about a 9″ globe, which consisted of rainbow cake filled with strawberry jam & vanilla mousse buttercream. All of it was covered in buttercream, except the globe was covered in fondant. I hand-painted each of the little kids in cap & gowns, which were made of gum paste and fondant. There were eleven kids graduating from this school, so luckily I was able to create a fondant figure to model each kid, so they can either eat it, or take it home and save it as keepsake! Everything was edible on this cake, except for the wires holding up the shooting stars.
A big thank you to Sandra for hiring me to make this cake for her special event!
